Dadasaheb Phalke Award was introduced to the National Awardin 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of Indian Cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke. it was to commemorate his contribution to the development of Indian cinema and this is annually given for distinguished contribution to the medium, its growth and promotion.
